WALK IN THEIR SHOES
Copyright 2026, She’s Somebody’s Daughter.

Your name is Emma Jackson, and you are nineteen years old. You grew up in a middle-class neighborhood on the outskirts of Millersville, Pennsylvania, USA. You had both money and a good education- you even attended church every week. Nobody could have predicted where your life would lead.
Both of your parents had successful jobs and constantly worked overtime. They provided everything you could have wanted: nice clothes, a car, education at an expensive private school… Yet after all of this, the one thing you craved was their love and affection. You struggled with constant feelings of self-doubt and depression. You continually asked yourself,
“Will I ever be loved?”
In high school, you felt lost in a sea of faces. Your depression led you to withdraw from your peers. Although you looked composed from the outside, there was a tumultuous storm inside of you, crying out to be loved and noticed.
Social media was your one outlet. It felt safe. When you were seventeen, a young man messaged you on Instagram. His name was Colton. He was twenty-four, and he was the first person who ever made you feel loved. He let you know that you were beautiful and smart and that you deserved to be treated like a queen.
You messaged Colton often and eventually met him, then started dating. It felt so good to be with somebody who cared about you. After eight months of secretly dating, Colton asked you if you would move in with him. This was your chance for a happy life. You ran away from home that night and moved into Colton’s apartment.
Life was pretty good for the first few months with Colton. He kept telling you how beautiful you were and bought you expensive jewelry. You had not been in contact with your parents and did not particularly miss them. Colton spent a lot of time at work, but you tried to understand that he was busy and could not always be with you.
